The City of London Corporation feel that Richard has made a huge impact on contemporary architecture, with major projects including the Centre Pompidou, European Court of Human Rights building in Strasbourg, Lloyd’s of London, Terminal 4 Madrid Barajas Airport, Millennium Dome and The Leadenhall Building.
His awards include the 1985 RIBA Gold Medal and the 2006 Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement (La Biennale di Venezia). He was knighted in 1991, made a life peer in 1996 and a Companion of Honour in 2008. Lord Rogers acted as Chief Advisor on Architecture and Urbanism to Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, and a design advisor to Boris Johnson, the current Mayor of London.
Richard’s Freedom ceremony at Guildhall will begin with him reading aloud the Declaration of a Freeman, and end with him being greeted by Chris Bilsland, Chamberlain of London, as a ‘Citizen of London’ and the presentation of his framed parchment certificate.
