T5 highly commended at British Construction Industry Awards
Heathrow's Terminal 5 has received a Highly Commended at the British Construction Industry Award (BCI) in the Major Project category.
The BCI Awards recognise excellence in its broadest sense - the overall design, construction and delivery of buildings and civil engineering projects. The awards are highly regarded in the construction sector and the most rigorously judged awards in the industry, with all shortlisted projects visited by members of the judging panel.
The judges said of the scheme;
‘Conceived to transform the experience of passengers at Heathrow, this hugely complex £4.3 billion enterprise was completed on time and on budget - while the UK’s busiest airport continued to operate without disruption.
‘Building is easy to read and navigate, and makes wonderful use of natural light.’
‘Intelligent use of colour to assist navigation. Excellent experience for passengers and a great building.’
‘Creative thought given to the external space which is very welcome in an airport building.’
The project team received the award from Margaret Hodge MP MBE, Minister of State for Culture, Media and Sport, at the gala awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 8 October.
