Rogers awarded Minerva Medal

Richard Rogers receives the Chartered Society of Designers’ Minerva Medal from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at a special ceremony at St James’ Palace.

Richard Rogers received the Minerva Medal at St James's Palace on 22 October. The Medal, awarded by The Chartered Society of Designers (CSD), was given in recognition of Richard’s consistent and outstanding efforts in design in the built environment. 

The Minerva Medal is a lifetime achievement award and the highest accolade the CSD can give. Over the years, it has been awarded to many key individuals who have made significant contributions to raising the profile of design both in the UK and internationally.  Past recipients include Norman Foster, Charles Eames and Terence Conran.

Richard was presented with the award at the Minerva Dinner, a special celebration of the Society and its work.  The Medal is cast from sterling silver and bears the profile of Minerva, the Roman Goddess of Wisdom, Knowledge and Education as well as the logo of CSD.

The CSD is the professional body for designers.  It was formed in 1930 and exists to promote concern for the sound principles of design in all areas in which design considerations apply, to further design practice and encourage the study of design techniques for the benefit of the community.  The CSD was awarded a Royal Charter in 1976 for its efforts in establishing a recognised profession of design with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh as its Patron.  It now has over 3,000 members in 34 countries.
