Avtar is director of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners Australia and currently leads the RSHP team of architects in Sydney for the design and construction of the Barangaroo Waterside project, the largest single development in Australia. He also holds the role of associate partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, London. Over nearly 30 years with the practice, his work has focused on design excellence and its delivery within the constraints of the client requirements.
As associate partner, he has been in charge, from inception to completion, of the development at One Hyde Park, a luxury apartment development on London’s Knightsbridge, cited as the most prestigious residential development in London.
Avtar was responsible for the Law Courts in Antwerp, the associated Nieu Zuid Masterplan and the Bolivarplaats projects in Antwerp, and the new headquarters of Lloyds Register in the City of London. In addition, he has played a key role in a diverse range of projects and competitions; including the renovation of Old Billingsgate Fish Market in London, the design of Channel 4 Headquarters in London, Strasbourg Court of Human Rights and Terminals at London Heathrow and Madrid Barajas terminal 4.
Avtar has extensive experience through his involvement in a multitude of projects ranging from competition design, urban-planning, concept design through to detail design, construction and contract administration, as well as client liaison, material and energy technologies, and sustainable design.
In addition, Avtar is a director of the Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners Charitable Foundation and sits on the Council of Management of the Foundation. The practice is entirely owned by the charity, which in turn receives an annual dividend from the practice and distributes this for charitable purposes at the direction of the employees of the practice.
