MCA was officially opened by Tony Blair , PM, and Ruth Kelly, the Secretary of State for Education and Skills on 3 March 05. The Prime Minister joined the main sponsor Sir Clive Bourne, Principal Sir Michael Wilshaw and Richard Rogers, to watch a performance given by the school children.
Sir Clive donated in excess of £2 million towards the £25 million project , the remainder funded by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) . Mossbourne Community Academy opened to 220 year 7 pupils in September 2004. The architecture of the building responds to the needs of one of England’s most deprived boroughs, offering accessibility, openness and social inclusion. As innovative in its education methods as its design, the Mossbourne Community Academy provides a blueprint for the future of education in the UK.
