The top 30m of the tower – weighing 900 tonnes – was prefabricated on a remote site, just inside the boundary of the airport

The cab section was transported one and a half miles across site to its position overnight when the airport was not operational

The structure is made up of three main parts: the cab, mast supporting the cab and the base building

The mast houses all the services required for the control tower, including two lifts and a staircase

The 'fishing-float' strategy.

The tower provides a clear 360 degree 'cone-of-vision' across the airport.

The new control tower, at a height of 87m, is more than twice that of the exisiting one
