Guildford Exchange
RRP / Countryside have been awarded “preferred bidder status” for this 76,000 sq. m project which includes 800 apartments, office headquarters, retail buildings, leisure facilities and a possible hotel.
The estimated £175 million scheme offers a strategy to reunite East and West Guildford, combining a new high density residential development with a transformed Guildford station. It will act as a ‘Gateway’ to the town: a public transport interchange between train, bus and car, with improved pedestrian and cycle linkages. A new station concourse above the railway offers a significant public domain, extending the pedestrian and cycle routes through the station.
The mixed-use, mixed tenure scheme consists of courtyard residential blocks backing onto railway tracks, with commercial development over and around the station. At the eastern entrance a new ‘people’s place’ provides cafes and shops - a focus of vibrant activity for a new urban quarter.
