Shanghai Masterplan

RRP was invited to join a French government initiative consulting the Shanghai administration on the creation of a four square kilometre new city district. This district, called Lu Jia Zui, is close to the city's main business quarter, although currently separated from it by the Huan Po river. Lu Jia Zui will be linked to the old city centre by bridges, tunnels and cable cars and will also form a connection between the city and the new growth centres of Zhang Yang, Hua Ma and Pu Dong to the east. The new area will provide a minimum of 4 million square metres of accommodation in a mix of uses, including commercial, residential, hotels and public buildings for up to 500,000 people, and will include 15,000 car parking spaces. Lu Jia Zui is destined to become Shanghai's prime business quarter for the 21st century and the nucleus for future economic growth.
