1201 K Street
In 2006, RRP was commissioned by the Washington DC-based developer The JBG Companies to create a new 12-storey office building, with a target gross area of 23,200 sq m as well as a four-star restaurant at ground level. The corner site at 1201 K Street – currently occupied by an eight-storey hotel – benefits from burgeoning commercial growth in the immediate area.
The key challenge inherent in this scheme is to create a state-of-the-art building with leading-edge sustainable technologies. An added challenge to the site is an easement imposed by a neighbouring building, requiring a series of ‘set-offs’ in the building’s upper levels.
