Douglas Paul – Associate Partner

Douglas worked on the extension to Geneva Airport, Aile Est, which completed in 2021. He was involved from an early stage of concept design developing the services and operational strategies. His role evolved such that by tender of the main superstructure and fit-out he was leading the RSHP team and in turn the design-lead for the wider design consortium, RBI-T.

Douglas joined RSHP in 2007, initially working on a proposal for a 26-storey office building in Broadgate in the City of London. Following this, he contributed to the detail design of the World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre at the British Museum.

Between 2009-11, Douglas was a key member of the design team working on the headquarters of the BBVA Bancomer bank, a 50-storey office tower in Mexico City. He helped develop the brief from the winning competition design and was part of a four-person RSHP team that moved to Mexico to collaborate with Legorreta + Legorreta during the detail design and construction phases. The completed building has won many awards and forms an important urban landmark on the skyline of Mexico City.

From 2011, Douglas worked on the extension to Geneva Airport, Aile Est, which reached Practical Completion in July 2021. Douglas was involved from an early stage of concept design developing the services and operational strategies. His role evolved such that by tender of the main superstructure and fit-out he was leading the RSHP team, and in turn, the design-lead for the wider design consortium, RBI-T. He led the project through the construction stages to completion, acting as design guardian throughout.

Despite its size and complexity, the client opted for a traditional procurement route which gave the design team considerable control of the detail and finishes, but also a great deal of responsibility in terms of documentation and contract administration.

The new pier will serve non-Schengen flights with six contact stands and numerous bus-gates and will be energy positive, producing more energy than it consumes.

In September 2021, Douglas relocated to Melbourne, Australia, to provide support to the site team on the Melbourne Metro project, currently under construction.

Douglas was made an Associate in 2012, a Senior Associate in 2016 and an Associate Partner in 2021.
